Once In A Lifetime – BAY CITY ROLLERS

Once In A Lifetime - BAY CITY ROLLERS

Once In A Lifetime - BAY CITY ROLLERS

LES MCKEOWN’S 70’S BAY CITY ROLLERS

The Bay City Rollers, featuring lead singer Les McKeown, were an international Supergroup. Dubbed Rollermania by the press, this kind of mass hysteria hadn’t been seen since The Beatles.
The Bay City Rollers were a Scottish pop/rock band of the 1970s. Their youthful, clean-cut image, distinctive styling featuring tartan-trimmed outfits, and cheery, sing-along pop hits helped the group become among the most popular musical acts of their time. For a relatively brief but fervent period (nicknamed “Rollermania”), they were worldwide teen idols. The group’s line-up featured numerous changes over the years, but the classic line-up during its heyday included guitarists Eric Faulkner and Stuart Wood, singer Les McKeown, bassist Alan Longmuir, and drummer Derek Longmuir.

British breakthrough: 1974–75
The five members at the very end of 1973 – the Longmuir brothers, Faulkner, Wood and McKeown – are generally referred to as the “classic line-up”. In early 1974 McKeown hastily re-recorded lead vocals of the group’s forthcoming single, “Remember (Sha La La La)”, which became a sizable hit and a lead-in to a series of UK chart hits.

LEO SAYER
Leo Sayer (born Gerard Hugh Sayer, 21 May 1948, Shoreham-by-Sea, Sussex) is an English-born singer-songwriter and musician whose singing career has spanned four decades. A distinctive singer-songwriter, Sayer was a top singles and album act on both sides of the Atlantic in the 1970s. His first seven hit singles in the UK all reached the Top 10 – a feat first registered by his one-time manager, Adam Faith. From his first hit with “The Show Must Go On” in 1973 to the present day, Sayer has never been missing from the charts for longer than five successive years.
His biggest success came in 1977 with “You Make Me Feel Like Dancing” (US No1 and won him a Grammy and which later went onto feature in the massive box office film ‘Charlies Angels’), as well as the romantic ballad, “When I Need You” (1977), which reached number one in both the UK and U.S. In 2006, he made a surprise return to number one in the UK Singles Chart, with Meck’s remix of “Thunder In My Heart”. Sayer has appeared in various TV shows including The Muppet Show, The Wiggles and Celebrity Big Brother UK in 2007
